Biomattone® combines hemp shiv and a natural binder in a single building envelope solution.

The combination of insulation and mass gives the building envelope a dynamic behavior. It is not just insulation: it is also the ability to delay and dampen peak heat. Insulating with mass therefore means stabilizing. The BIOMATTONE® envelope system is thus a mineral-plant masonry with hygroactive behavior, which insulates and stabilizes indoor thermo-hygrometric conditions.

What is Biomattone® Tecnocanapa Bioedilizia®?

Biomattone® is a prefabricated hemp-lime block. It is used for masonry and insulation. It combines coarse hemp shiv, a natural dolomitic binder and a probiotic additive. It is available in 8 formats, from BA8 to BA50, with thicknesses from 8 to 50 cm. This makes it suitable for vapor-permeable, insulating walls in Brescia as well.

When is this system recommended?

It is the right choice when you want thermal insulation, thermal mass and vapor permeability in the same wall. For example, in insulating infill walls. It also works as internal or external insulating lining walls on existing masonry. It is also used for internal partitions with sound insulation and for subfloors. The choice depends on the building and the project goals: for Brescia, the technical specialist assesses it together with the designer.

What advantages does it offer?

It combines several functions in a single element. Its thermal conductivity is 0.044 W/mK. Its dry density is 310 kg/m³ and its specific heat capacity is 1280 J/kgK. Is it suitable for renovations?

Yes, the system is also used in renovations. It works as an internal or external insulating lining wall on existing masonry. Thicknesses range from 8 to 50 cm. The format therefore depends on the available space and the required performance. The application and thickness must in any case be verified for the specific project in Brescia.

How is the wall build-up defined?

The wall build-up depends on the structure, climate zone, finishes and required performance. The technical specialist starts from the chosen format. For example, U ranges from 0.5 to 0.09 W/m²K, and the thermal phase shift ranges from 3 to over 32 hours, without plaster. They then check construction junctions, laying mortar and vapor-permeable coatings.
